Fergie VS Jordan McCoy : Big Girls Don’t Cry
Have you heard this “war” between Fergie and Jordan McCoy? It started in 2006, but is now back up thanks to Jordan’s Myspace. Fergie is not really vocal about this ridiculous issue, but it’s mostly Jordan and her management who’s are still pissed off about it. Or so it seems. It’s even part of Jordan’s wikipedia profile. So Jordan’s camp claimed that “Big Girls Don’t Cry” was sold to them and once they recorded it, they knew it was going to be a hit. Fergie supposedly heard it and decided to record her own version, and without telling the Jordan camp, she added it in her “The Dutchess” album. Bad Boy records was so PO’d that they scrapped Jordan’s project and thought of suing Fergie.
But guess what, and this is like the icing on the cake, Fergie co-wrote the song so technically they can’t sue her. Umm duhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
Jordan McCoy posted her own acoustic version of Big Girls Don’t Cry on her Myspace & YouTube sites :
Watch Fergie’s version after the fold :
Puhlleeaazzze. Fergie has long established herself in the music business as THE chick from The Black Eyed Peas. And she actually has talent and star power. If Jordan wants to pout (again) and generate a buzz around her, she needs to think of some other ways to do it. Still pissed off about a song that was “yours” but errrr, “stolen” back by the artist who actually co-wrote the song is a moot point. Ironically enough, the song title gives another meaning into this whole drama. It started in 2006, Jordan is still posting about it in her Myspace in 2008. And in her YouTube. Can’t she just post a “cover” of the song without bringing Fergie’s name into it, again?

8 opinions for Fergie VS Jordan McCoy : Big Girls Don’t Cry
Aug 27, 2008 at 10:12 am
I’m going to finally tell the entire horrible story, which I’ll call GOOD GIRL AT BAD BOY. I’m executive producer of Jordan McCoy’s album with Diddy and Harve, and signed Jordan to my indie label when she was 11 years old. I did the group DREAM, TQ, etc. I was given a demo of “Big Girls Don’t Cry” by a VP at Sony music publishing while looking thru songs for Jordan’s album. I fell IN LOVE with that song and played it non-stop for days, driving even Diddy nuts. It was a smash hit for Jordan McCoy. Sean Combs didn’t like the song for Jordan, because Fergie sounded “so dark and gloomy” on the demo of it. He passed on it saying it was too old for Jordan. I wouldn’t let it go, and literally begged the producer to let us record it, since I couldn’t lie and told him diddy passed, but it was only because of Fergie’s vocals. I was sure Diddy would “get it” with Jordan on it. Jordan did the entire song in an hour and a half with back ground vocals. The girl is a real star!!! after Jordan recorded it, Diddy said, “it’s a single. Fergie’s gloomy vocals just threw me off. I’m bad.” And Diddy bought it. Harve Pierre, Bad Boy President and Gwen Niles, VP agreed, the song was a smash. the producer, Toby Gadd asked if he could give a copy of the song to David Sonneberg, Esq. he and Fergie’s joint manager. I said, “absolutely not. we NEVER give music out until we release it. They’ll have to hear it with everyone else, when it’s released.” Toby Gadd, said ok, but gave it to his management anyway. He and David Sonneberg also jacked up the price of the song after we agreed to a cheaper price in the beginning, because they knew we intended to use that song as a single for Jordan McCoy. David Sonneberg, (snake attorney, but right about the song) knew the song was a smash after hearing Jordan’s version of it; and insisted Fergie strip it on her album at the last minute, telling her, “this is your biggest song. don’t be a fool.” That’s why Fergie wasn’t sued but should be. She is responsible for delaying Jordan McCoy’s album for over a year at least. Jordan should have received a Grammy nod for best new artist for that song. Diddy paid over $25,000 on that song including mixing it and travel. I spent over 2 weeks of my time on making it right from the demo and mixing it. Fergie’s version is almost identical to ours, and she and her camp claim, “it sounds completely different from Jordan McCoy’s version.” What do you think??? We were never paid back, and have damages against Fergie and Toby Gadd. We chose not to pursue it out of a mutual fondness for Fergie. We are trying to believe that she did not try to do anything bad to Jordan McCoy or Sean Combs intentionally. Diddy says they are “good friends.” We know Fergie didn’t even want to put the song on her album. David Sonneberg supposedly forced her, PER FERGIE. He was right of course, it was Fergie’s biggest song. BUT SHE PASSED ON IT, until she heard our version of it, and those are the facts. Sonneberg is a snake, but was right. I guess you could say he does his job for his client, at least. The song was really better suited for Jordan McCoy or a younger singer. Toby Gadd is a liar that should have never given our song to anyone after specifically being told not to, more than once. He jacked up the price when he knew it was a single, too. and Diddy was just too busy to really care. We adore him anyway, but he’s human people! He runs at least 6 different companies at the same time and works 24/7, and has a lot of kids, too. Jordan isn’t upset about the song any longer. She’s tough, especially after the Hanna Montana thing. JORDAN MCCOY BASHING, PART 2! Jordan can take just about anything after that. We wrote a show similar to hanna for Disney. Disney gave Jordan the role of hanna after they rewrote it, but then took it away after Billy Ray Cyrus said he’d work at no charge the first season if his daughter, Miley, (who tried out for 2nd role) was given the lead. Miley wasn’t even a real singer compared to Jordan, at the time. But we congratulated Disney and Miley on their success, too. It’s nice to see someone win. Jobs are always on the line when a show fails. And we love Disney. I’m not sure which situation was worse, but I respect Jordan’s professionalism and sheer dedication to her craft. She gets up every time she’s knocked down, and really hard. ADMIRABLE! And let’s face it, Jordan’s chorus on “Big Girls” kicks Fergie’s bu*t. Fergie’s intro is nice. Jordan’s acoustic version live is a little “bouncy” on this version because of the feedback in that bathroom with the guitar, but it’s still pretty damn great. The girl’s amazing with a great spirit and she can SING!!!! Way better than Fergie, no disrespect Fergie, you know we love you. We didn’t sue you, right? Jordan acts, dances and is smart too. She’s still pretty blonde though at moments, but knows how to laugh at herself, a lot. She’s one of those artists you run across every 10 years that really has it all. She’s 16 years old and has already taken a beating that would knock anyone out of the game. Her newest venture will be in the new DREAM, (yes, yes, yes, we are bringing DREAM back to you.) We need clean girls that really sing and dance (no offense pussy cat dolls, ur amazing on poles, and non skanky girls, no offense Danity Kane, we love our label mates, and ur not all skanky.) We love the skanky one the best though! sorry diddy, leave her alone, man. She’s interesting to watch at least. Regardless, you will see a lot more of Jordan McCoy, in DREAM, and her solo album will still come out in 2009 with a TV show. She’s doing a movie too. She is not a quitter, and is a natural. Being a performer is like breathing in air to her. She’s worth the wait!!!! Her new single, “I GET WEAK” hit iTunes yesterday and has already doubled in popularity from her first single, “Just Watch Me,” with NO MARKETING OR RADIO AT ALL. Bad Boy wasn’t going to put it out as a single. We did it ourselves because we loved it, and wanted to let you have it. Harve Pierre, Bad Boy’s President understood, after that meeting we recorded with Jordan and Harve. Check http://www.myspace.com/jordanmccoy or http://youtube.com/jordanmccoytv called “meeting with the President.” Harve decided to let us put the song out for at least a digital release to show Jordan’s fans that we appreciate their support and patience. Honestly, we did “Just Watch Me” thinking we’d use it for the theme song of Hanna Montana. Diddy loved it and used it as the 1st single, but didn’t do a video. so it never saw the light of day. diddy went on vacation, and when he came back, it was too late. Atlantic Records said they alredy worked the single and wanted to move on to the next one. Diddy tried to make things right by doing a TV show. Check out GOOD GIRL/BAD BOY on Jordan’s site. we shot a pilot that 3 networks wanted. then diddy said, “it’s not a show.” He’s wrong again, (3 networks said it was a show and wanted to buy it, c’mon.) But Diddy is a perfectionist and it’s his show. He also put himself all over the trailer and decided he had no time to do the show. We can take it, though. It makes us stronger, and better. We move on, and don’t complain. You can bet DREAM will be put out without giving anything to anyone! no hold ups, no opinions, JUST YOU!!! Please show your support by buying “I GET WEAK” on iTunes. It is a smash! Diane Warren wrote it and she’s amazing. Tune in for more Jordan McCoy drama on her new blog, http://www.jordanmccoy.com/blog. WE CALL IT GOOD GIRL/BAD BOY, and are about to give you the REAL DIRT on the business, (if we have the guts, like popmusic.)
WE ARE STILL LOOKING FOR 2-3 GIRLS THAT CAN SING AND DANCE TO BE IN DREAM. SEND IN A LINK OF YOU SINGING AND DANCING TO http://www.youtube.com/officialDREAMTV. DREAM WANTS YOU!!!! Stay tuned…

I’m curious Debbie, how does one song delay an entire album for a whole year? That logic makes no sense, unless you were waiting to gauge the success of BGDC as a single before finishing the album. It’s been two years, you guys seriously need to let it go. It’s better that Jordan learn now that the music business can be a dirty and vile thing.
Seriously, get over it. All of you. This is getting retardedly ridiculous.

fergie and her management can be sued because toby gadd and co writer (same manager) produced jordan’s version. after we purchased, he asked if he could give the song to their dual manager, for fergie to hear. he was told, “absolutely not. we do not ever give music out to anyone. they’ll have to wait and hear it, when it comes out.” their management called and asked if they could have a copy, and they were told “no, we never give music out.” just for this reason. The co writer disregarded our specific instructions, took our money, signed a deal, along with the management drafting the deal, and gave our proprietary property to fergie’s manager who in turn, played for her and told her if she didn’t put this song on her album, she’s foolish, that it’s the best song she’s done. Damages were suffered monatarily because Fergie’s master is identical to jordan’s. jordan owned the master 1st. double digits of thousands of dollars were paid for the song, to the management company and writer, and jordan’s album was delayed due to the disregard for her property. damages have been severly suffered. Jordan wasn’t redrudging up the past. this is old news, check pop dirt to stay more on top of the game. jordan does an acoustic song every tues. she did big girls, because she just learned to play it on the guitar. she’s taught herself how to play. call it what you will, we didn’t sue fergie, her management or the co writer, toby gad, who all profited from our money, our forsite on recording the song, fergie didn’t want for her album, and didn’t even return our $$$$ they took after stealing the song, (yes stealing since they rerecorded after hearing our master and kept it the same) and depriving jordan not only a possible grammy nod for best new artist of the year, but also of her album being severly delayed till next year. you’re the one bringing the entire topic up to the surface, yet again. it’s old news. move on. jordan will sing the song whenever she’d like. We own the master. thanks for your uneducated little find about the litigation. get an attorney next time and read all of the agreements between all parties before you mis direct the public for no reason. it liable a term you comprehend? how about defamation of character, or misrepresenting the facts?

we already let it go. every time jordan sings the song, it comes up? that’s what’s ridiculous!
Sep 21, 2008 at 12:55 pm
debbie, really? maybe it would help if Jordan herself would stop writing this : “The song Fergie sold to me and then stole back!” on her youtube. that doesn’t sound like someone who’s moved on.

least you could do is show the video with both songs on it. not jordan singing it live in her bathroom, while playing the guitar. she just learned it on the guitar, is all that happened, here.
a fansite had this to explain the best with a sample of both versions. you decide which one you like the best if interested. thanks for listening:

jordan’s over it. not many artists would be. it was a really bad blow. the song is a smash; regardless of which of them sings it.

I think it’s a little presumptuous to assume that Jordan would have gotten a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist for this song.
As a previous commenter said, it wouldn’t be a big deal if every time Jordan referenced the song, she talked about it being the song Fergie stole back.
And again, how does “disregard for Jordan’s property” delay a whole album for over a year? If everyone is so “over it,” wouldn’t the album have been released months ago without the friggin’ song? It seems to me that all of Jordan’s eggs were placed in the basket of Big Girls Don’t Cry and when Fergie did the song, Jordan had no momentum or credibility for an album.
Wow, it took her two years to play the song on the guitar? And this girl is supposed to be some kind of musical protoge?

we love fergie, regardless. have you checked out lady gaga? she’s really hot. jordan was 15 years old when that happened. she’ll learn. thanks for all of the input. it helps, whether we want to hear it or not. lol i appreciate it. thanks for listening. debbie hammond
