]]> Isn’t it nice to step back in time every once and a while? Today, our pop music flashback is No Doubt’s catchy tune, “Don’t Speak.” The song was released in 1996 (it doesn’t even feel like it was 13 years ago!) off of their 1995 album, Tragic Kingdom, which was their second album.

This single is actually their most successful international track and stayed at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 Airplay for sixteen weeks.  During the 1998 Grammy Awards, No Doubt was nominated for the Song of the Year award and the Best Pop Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal.

The music video won for Best Group Video and was nominated for the Video of the Year at the 1997 Video Music Awards. The song is still good even after 13 years! Are you guys fans?

]]> Have you heard of these guys? Well, if not, you might be hearing a lot more from them. They are Hot Chelle Rae and they’re a pop/rock/dance type of band. They’re song “I Like to Dance” is super catchy and fun to listen to. I literally want to get up and start dancing to it. The song has a unique sound to it, likely attributed to the mix of genres incorporated in there.  The tune is off of their debut album Lovesick Electric and is strong in every way. Vocals are good, the beat is good and it’s catchy! The band is composed of Ryan Keith Follese (lead vocals), Nash Overstreet (lead guitar), Ian Keaggy (bass) and Jamie Follese (drums)

Nash Overstreet said, “We wanted the music to sound larger than life. We wanted it to sound explosive and new and fun and be better than anything out there.” Listen to “I Like to Dance” below:

Overstreet said of the album, “I think the album really reflects who we are and how we want the world to feel. We can have a lot of fun and goof off, or we can be very serious and work really hard, and the album shows it all. We’ve got songs for people to listen to if they’re going through a break-up, like ‘The Distance’ or ‘Last One Standing,’ or if they want to just forget about work, like ‘I Like to Dance,’ or they want to dream about the future, like ‘Say.’ We’ve tried hard to make it completely accessible and something people can really relate to no matter what’s going on in their lives.”

]]> This song, “How Do You Sleep?” is sung by Jesse McCartney and is the third single to be released off of his album “Departure”. The music video is a collection of footage from Jesse on tour. Making a cameo in the video is fellow pop singer Katy Perry, which is shown through video footage of her greeting him backstage at one of his concerts. I quite like the song. It’s definitely catchy and I’ll likely be humming it throughout the day. What do you guys think of it?

The video for Take On Me was such a phenomenon in the 80’s when it first came out. How did they do that? was the question was on everybody’s minds. It was cinematic that’s for sure. ‘Twas a fantastic concept that was executed successfully. Plus the song isn’t too shabby either. Talk about love beyond boundaries :) .

]]> I haven’t done a Song Of The Day in a while huh? Nothing was really catching my sound radar for weeks so I kinda neglected it a bit. I like to feature songs that has actually interested me in a particular day instead of just doing a random search on YouTube. Coz that’s how music is to me. Whatever genre they belong to, I must feel something about it, yah know. Today, The Sweet Escape came to me while looking at picture of Gwen Stefani and her lovely family. The lyrics to the song might not completely point it out but the title is apropos to all the fame that Gwen has gotten ever since No Doubt. She and Gavin have been married for a long time now, 1 son, and another baby on the way. I bet being with her family is Gwen’s “sweet escape” away from all the glitz, glamour and paparazzi that comes with being famous.

 

PLUS, I must add that when I first saw the video of this song on MTV, I was relieved. Why? I was afraid Gwen was going to be yodeling throughout her entire album. Whewwww!

]]> Summer Nights from the movie GREASE. Performed by John Travolta and Olivia Newton. This is the classic  High School Musical and would probably be my favorite of all high school musicals no matter how many versions will come out in the future. What can I say, I Love Classics. Even though I was  only 2 years old when the movie came out, hehe. All I know is that when I was old enough to finally see GREASE, it has been one of my favorites of all time. I knew all the lyrics, the moves, watched it over and over again every time it came on TV, and even bought the soundtrack. To appease whatever Summer Slump we’re having, here’s our song of the day, Summer Nights by Sandy, Danny, Pink Ladies and T-Birds.

 

To this day, I still want my own Pink Ladies jacket. If you tell me you don’t start boppin’ your head and singing along to any of the songs from GREASE then I’ll say you’re lying :) .

]]> Remember when the mime version of Torn by Natalie Imbruglia came out? It was like hot cakes. Or crack. Everyone got so addicted and couldn’t get enough of it. Including my husband, hehe. He actually suggested yesterday that I post the video here. So here it goes… Torn, in Mime.

I still think the video is hilarious. No matter how many times I’ve seen it. The mime video is actually much bettter than the origianl video of the song. Don’t you think? Hope you enjoyed it, again :) .

]]> I just love how Supergirl by Saving Jane beats in the beginning. Every time I hear it, I just want to start stomping, jump around and let my hair run wild…LOL. It’s such a classic party anthem with a nice message. If you listen to the lyrics carefully anyway. Hey, we all want to be Supergirl sometimes. And we might have at one point or another has taken the role coz either we love it or coz it’s what the “reputation” we want to show people.

Fast forward to 10 years later, + kids and husband, as much as you’d want to be a Superwoman reality sets in and you realize that just like when you were just a Supergirl, what matters is that you only want to do your best. Without losing your hair and sanity in the process. Life is a freaking cycle, that’s what I’m trying to say :) . Enjoy our song of the day, Supergirl by Saving Jane.
